Don Giovanni

Alumnus Nathan Gunn, the general director of Lyric Theatre @ Illinois and a star on stages across the planet, made a different kind of debut in Don Giovanni in 2018. Not only did he play the title role—a corporate raider living in Manhattan in this version—but for the first time he served as director of an opera.

Euphonium Players

How many ensembles can an euphonium player join? It depends on how much time you have in your schedule. From Basketball Band to a Lyric Opera @ Illinois pit orchestra to Brass Choir to Wind Symphony to the aptly named Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, the choices are vast. Literally dozens of groups are open to other brass and wind instrumentalists, percussionists, jazz specialists, singers, string players, and electronic music makers too.

Marie Roth

"The University of Illinois fostered in me a sense of pride and confidence that allow me to be where I am today."

When Marie Roth came to the U of I as a freshman, the School of Music faculty helped her pursue music education full force. And when her interests shifted to arts administration, the College of Fine and Applied Arts team transitioned with her; Marie received guidance from FAA Career Services Coordinator Michele Plante and from staff members at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

A constant in the U.S. College Rankings top 15, the School of Music offers intensive studies that go far beyond the conservatory. The school offers leading music education, choral, and orchestra programs, diverse ensembles from symphonic bands to choruses to jazz groups, and a new Lyric Theatre program. Nearly 100 faculty members, a staff of more than two dozen professionals, and renowned visiting international artists perform, give master classes, and mentor students.

  • BA, BM, and BME programs
  • AD, MM, MME, DMA, and PhD programs
