Dance at Illinois attracts movement artists from across the planet to work and mentor on campus. Recent guests have included So You Think You Can Dance star Sonya Tayeh, alumnus Aaron R. White, and National Medal of Arts winner Ping Chong.
Combining scientific and movement research, Jennifer Monson leads iLAND (the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Art, Nature, and Dance), creates site-specific pieces such as The Mahomet Aquifer Project, and investigates media and motion in works including Live Dancing Archive, which incorporates improvisations made at the seashore in response to migrating gray whales and birds.
