Architecture Alumni Honored with Awards

Carol Ross Barney, an alumna of the Illinois School of Architecture, received the 2015 Gold Medal for lifetime achievement from the American Institute of Architects Illinois. The first president of Chicago Women in Architecture, lead designer for the Oklahoma City Federal Building, designer for the Chicago Riverwalk, and founder of Ross Barney Architects, Barney was recognized for her "multifaceted contributions to the profession as designer, teacher, and citizen" and for her part in making Illinois architects "major players on the world stage."

Other alumni took home 2015 Design Excellence Awards from the American Institute of Architects Chicago: Ralph Johnson of Perkins + Will for the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.; Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects for the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College in Michigan; Brian Vitale of Gensler for the Genevieve and Wayne Gratz Center in Chicago; and César Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects for the Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago.
