Architecture's Lynne Dearborn Earns Grant to Study Affordable Housing Policies
Lynne Dearborn, an associate professor with Illinois Architecture, has received a $248,250 grant from Policies for Action to investigate how low-income housing tax credits can affect the design and construction of rental residences for vulnerable populations. Dearborn, who will serve as the co-principal investigator, and principal investigator Sherry Ahrentzen of the University of Florida Shimberg Center for Housing Studies will look at ways that states can use incentives to encourage the construction of healthier housing and ensure that plans including health-focused designs are implemented. The project is one of the first six ever funded by Policies for Action, which is a program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and it is both the only one that includes a researcher in architecture and the only one based at a public land-grant university.
