Dance at Illinois Acclaimed at ACDA Conference

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Performers and choreographers from Dance at Illinois were in the spotlight at the regional meeting of the American College Dance Association (ACDA). Four of the 11 works slated by a team of judges for inclusion in the final Gala Concert had connections to Dance at Illinois. Alumna Margi Cole's piece Kairos and Physical Manifestations of Assent by alumnus Chris Johnson were selected, and current undergraduate Alex Gossen was represented by his dance Untitled. Bringing audience members to their feet and closing the concert was SHADE! (The Secret Dance of Trees) choreographed by C. Kemal Nance—you may have seen it at November Dance: The Virtuosic at Krannert Center in 2014. Also featured at the conference was Philip Johnston's duet Tom—another work from November Dance: The Virtuosic—which was performed during the Informal Concert dedicated to nonadjudicated pieces and works-in-progress. Established in 1971, the ACDA sponsors conferences and festivals to recognize excellence in performance and choreography at colleges and universities and to connect students to the professional dance world.
