Japan House Hosts Cultural Festival on August 28

Thursday, August 18, 2016

Japan House will welcome the community to its second Matsuri festival on August 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A wide-ranging celebration of Japanese culture, this event will include performances by Ho Etsu Taiko, a drum ensemble, and Michiyoshi Sato, who plays the three-stringed shamisen in a style similar to bluegrass. In addition to demonstrations of traditional Japanese arts such as bonsai and ikebana, Matsuri will feature activities including face painting, bubble art, Cosplay, and tea ceremonies. Vendors will offer kimonos, pottery, tea bowls, Asian-inspired food, and other items for sale on the grounds of Japan House near the Arboretum on South Lincoln Avenue. Much of Matsuri is free, and tickets for special activities, food, and drinks are available to purchase online. Read more about this cultural showcase in a News Bureau article.
