Marching Illini Welcomed in New York City
With Santa not far behind, the Marching Illini strutted into Herald Square at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with a bluesy holiday tune featuring shoutouts to the big guy in red, energetic choreography, the drumline extraordinaire, wailing saxes, and a sextet of trumpets. Drum major Rose Craig will bring home a bonus from the parade: the Bob Hope Band Scholarship. She was honored for musicianship, leadership, community service, and sense of humor, and she and the band will each receive $5,000. The Best Band in the Land will continue Thanksgiving weekend activities with a halftime show for the football game between Illinois and Northwestern at Soldier Field on November 28.
