Music's Michael Silvers Earns Major Fellowship

Friday, July 24, 2015

The American Council of Learned Societies, a federation encompassing national scholarly organizations in the humanities and social sciences, has named Michael Silvers of the School of Music a 2015 fellow. An assistant professor of ethnomusicology, Silvers will examine forró music and its connections to nature in his project "Voices of Drought: Forró Soundscapes in Northeastern Brazil." Forró both allows audiences to experience the environment through music and is affected by changing conditions in nature. Silvers will join approximately 350 other 2014–15 fellows, who were selected from among more than 3,000 applicants.
