November 12 Uncorked and On Topic Addresses Mobilities

Thursday, October 29, 2015

When it's connected to the concept of upward mobility, the movement of people conjures images of success and power, but some migrations occur following personal hardships or societal changes. How are art, culture, and commerce affected by such movements? Faranak Miraftab of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Valleri Robinson of Illinois Theatre will discuss mobilities at the November 12 edition of Uncorked and On Topic. A 2014 University Scholar, Miraftab focuses her research on how people manage city life in countries including Chile, Mexico, South Africa, and Togo. Robinson earned a Fulbright Fellowship for research at the Kolyada Theatre in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and specializes in Russian-American cultural exchanges. Join this free discussion moderated by Kevin Hamilton, senior associate dean of FAA, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tryon Festival Theatre Foyer at Krannert Center.
