Use a Phone App during Free Dance Performances April 8–9

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Audience members will have an opportunity to become part of a dance when they use a phone app to affect the performance of Interface: Critical Mass. Developed by John Toenjes, the music director of Dance at Illinois and founder of the Laboratory for Audience Interactive Technologies, the app has been used in previous productions, and the new work will offer another opportunity to explore how audiences can shape their theatre experiences with technology. The experimental Interface: Critical Mass is part of a series by choreographer Chad Michael Hall, who is an artist-in-residence with Dance at Illinois. Free performances of the work-in-progress will be held at 7 p.m. on April 8 and 9 in the Colwell Playhouse at Krannert Center. Read more about Toenjes and the app in a News Bureau feature.
